Fighting Infectious Diseases in The Gambia (FID) was founded in 2009 by a team of professionals after they returned from a visit to The Gambia. Whilst there, they visited the small rural area of Mariama Kunda. They observed that there was a serious shortage of adequate medical facilities, with the only provision being a one room clinic with minimal medical facilities, which were operated once a month.
Not only were the facilities inadequate for the needs of the Mariama Kunda community, but the clinic was also serving the residents of five other surrounding villages.
FID is a a non-governmental organisation dedicated to alleviating poverty and fighting infectious diseases especially in rural areas in The Gambia.
It is our vision to provide homes for orphaned, abandoned children to offer them a loving environment in which to grow and flourish. We assist people irrespective of their gender, age and socio-economic background. We aim to reduce the needless loss of life caused by lack of effective healthcare.
